David (Dave) Ford has more than three decades of National Airspace Systems (NAS) operations and program integration experience. He performed various duties, including executive and technical leadership, while working at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Mr. Ford is an internationally recognized expert in Oceanic Air Traffic Services. He has a proven record of successful leadership on the deployment of innovative technologies that enhance the efficiency of the NAS. He has program management experience in oceanic systems, airport surface systems, terminal air traffic automation systems, weather and surveillance technologies, and noise monitoring and abatement.
Mr. Ford joined the DIGITALiBiz (iBiz) Advisory Board in March 2011. In this role, he will provide advice to corporate executives, and support strategic initiatives such as the expansion and growth of iBiz into the aviation industry.
Mr. Ford also serves as Founder and President of Ford Aviation Solutions. At Ford Aviation, he currently consults in a wide range of aviation areas that include air traffic management automation systems, operations, and concept development. He provides consulting services to companies that do business in the aviation field, particularly with respect to FAA’s NextGen Air Traffic Modernization Plan. He currently supports the FAA’s PBN efforts for changes in the ATC separation rules to take advantage of the high performance of advanced technology aircraft.
Prior to establishing Ford Aviation Solutions, Mr. Ford served as Director, Aviation Strategies at Lockheed Martin. While at Lockheed, he was instrumental in starting a new line of business in Traffic Flow Management. Mr. Ford’s solution presented a notable step forward in traffic flow management capabilities through an on-site airport prototyping initiative. This unique approach resulted in the development of a design model integrated with a major U.S. carrier’s daily operation.
Prior to joining Lockheed, Mr. Ford worked at the FAA for more than 30 years. During this time he served in numerous capacities, including support at the FAA’s Operations Research organization where he worked on technologies and programs that minimized aircraft fuel burn through optimizing flight tracks in oceanic airspace. Mr. Ford was the Senior Executive Service (SES) manager in charge of FAA’s Advanced Technologies Office, including the Safe Flight 21 ADS-B development program. He was also the SES manager in charge of the successful deployment of the world’s most advanced Air Traffic Control System – the $500M U.S Oceanic Automation system (ATOP). Mr. Ford was the SES Integrated Project Team (IPT) Leader for Terminal Automation Programs. In this capacity, he was responsible for the planning and procurement of NAS Terminal Automation Systems and managing an annual budget of approximately $350M.
Mr. Ford holds a Master of Science Degree in Engineering from George Washington University, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Portland, Oregon. He received his Program Management Professional (PMP), Project Management Institute (PMI) certification in 2003.
